Champaign

Champaign took its name from its home city of Champaign, IL, hitting the charts big-time with their 1981 debut album, “How ‘Bout Us”. The title track was a Top 5 hit in the USA (R & B chart and in the U.K. Follow-ups included the Top Ten R&B hit“Try Again” and the R&B Top Ten hit “Off and On Love.”

You can relive the Champaign glory days with original lead singer, Pauli Carman, whose vocals are featured on all of Champaign’s hits. The multi-platinum selling artist has appeared on all the hit music shows such as Soul Train, Solid Gold, American Bandstand and the UK’s Top of the Pop. Leah has been performing since high school with extensive dance and vocal experience. The last 10 years saw Leah touring and recording with the Saints Unified Voices directed by Gladys Knight, including recording the 2006 Grammy award winning CD entitled “One Voice” followed by their holiday CD “A Christmas Celebration.”

Carma is a vocalist has been in and around the music scene professionally since 1989. She has owned and managed one of the largest and most successful rock clubs in the midwest for eleven years.

Diana Johnson Cline, a life-long friend of Pauli Carman. Cline studied with Judy Davis (singing coach to Streisand and Sinatra) and was a studio singer and performer in the SF Bay area for 10 years. She has taught the “Judy Davis Technique” for 20 years.

Brenda Bouschard, pianist, vocalist and arranger. A child prodigy, has been playing piano since the age of four. Brenda has performed in many of the main show rooms and private corporate events in Las Vegas, and Casinos across the USA. She has also toured with Columbia Recording Artists and worked as musical director for various acts for many years.

Paul Richmond, bassist and Grammy-nominated songwriter. Paul recorded on all Champaign’s top hits. He wrote many hits for legends, including Marshall Thompson (Chi-Lites), Tyrone Davis, Willie Clayton, Amuzement Park, and many more. He has two gold records for his contributions to the Manhattans’ After Midnight album, which included the hit single “Shining Star.”

Terry Richmond, lead guitarist. Terry (Tea Bird) Is a wizard on guitar and has performed and toured extensively for most of his life, both in the USA and abroad with many award winning musical groups from different genres. His expertise in music spans from Blues to Jazz, to Rock and Funk. He has also recorded on many chart topping hits.

Zorin D. McGuire, drummer. Zorin has a strong passion and love of music. He has been playing percussion for 10 years, specifically on drums. As a polished studio and live musician, Zorin has toured all over the world with many different award winning artists and genres.

Samuel Hankins Jr., trumpet. Sam’s love of music has led him to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance, second Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree in Music Education. He has performed, recorded and toured with everyone from Glenn Miller’s big band, to the O’Jays, Aretha Franklin and The Temptations.

Marvin Dean Knox, saxophone. This multi-talented musician, songwriter, arranger and professional recording artist has toured with many award winning artists from the Beach Boys to the Ohio Players.
